Boston prepares for protests against the "Straight Pride Parade" this Saturday

Ever since the announcement of the "Straight Pride Parade" there has been a fuzz, not only because the parade is being organized by persons connected to right-wing nationalists, but mostly because they acted as if they had the support from large companies such as Tripadvisor, Netflix and Lyft.

These companies however were unaware and since they did not want to be associated, the group "Super Happy Fun America" was immediately sued and reprimanded to remove all brand names from their website, which they consequently did. The parade in the meantime is still happening even without support from large companies: on Saturday August 31st, the parade will take place from Copley Square to the Boston town hall.

The number of participants has not been announced. It is certain that there will be several protests in response to this parade in different places, for example the protest group "Straight Pride is Hate Pride" will take a stand at the start of the parade and the group "Fight Supremacy: Hands Off Our Pride" will hold their protest in downtown Boston. For both, around 1000 people have already indicated on Facebook that they will be coming to protest.

One of the co-organizers of these protests is Monica Cannon-Grant, although she does not identify herself as LGBT, she does see the need to protest: “The world is watching how we deal with racism and how we deal with hate, I think we are therefore obliged to stand up and fight, that is what I intend to do. "

Boston has often been the site of major protests in the past, with around 40,000 people attending in 2017 to protest against the right-wing rally that took place in Charlottesville.
