80 percent of LGBT students in China suffer from depression

According to a study by Beijing Normal University, it appears that 85 percent of the students who identify as LGBTQ suffer from poor mental health and the new study also showed that about 40 percent of the students admitted that they considered suicide.

The survey also found that more than 80 percent of the students who participated in the survey came out to someone, but about three-quarters said they couldn't tell their parents, teachers, or other family members.

Shockingly, only 2.9 percent said they had supportive teachers who understood and supported them. China legalized same-sex sexual activity in 1997 and declassified homosexuality as a mental illness in 2001.
