The announcement by Sesame Street came with a photo of Porter on set while wearing his iconic Oscar dress from last year’s ceremony. This went too far for Republican politician Jason Rapert. According to him, Sesame Street is trying to "push drag queens on children.’’
The politician expressed his disapproval of Porter’s guest role by promoting a petition on Facebook against his appearance on the show. Rapert defended his stance in a reply to one of the comments on his post, saying ‘’Jesus never endorsed homosexual behavior and opposed it as he referenced Sodom and Gomorrah‘’ and claimed that ‘’speaking the truth is not hatred.’’
Porter responded by telling Page Six: “Like, what about me singing with a penguin [on the show] has anything to do with what I’m doing in my bedroom? The really interesting thing for me is that that’s what it’s all about when it comes to LGBTQ people – the first thing everyone wants to talk about is how we having sex.’’
“Stay out of my bedroom and you will be fine – that is none of your business.” Porter said.
