UK: MPs debate criminalizing online homophobia

Politician Daniel Zeichner will open the debate on 1 July. Norris said: "As a gay man, I find it devastating how members of the LGBT + community are still exposed to discrimination online. Because I'm on TV, it's not acceptable to post gay phobic messages and comments on my social media platforms."

“No one should receive these comments. I will not go into detail with regard to the various terrible names that I have been mentioned and have read, but this should not be acceptable. It can have a major impact on people's mental health and it has certainly made my fear and low self-esteem worse. "

In response to the petition, the government said: "The government recognizes the damage that gay phobic online messages can cause. We work together to address inequality and make the UK online environment safer for everyone."
