UK: MPs debate criminalizing online homophobia
“No one should receive these comments. I will not go into detail with regard to the various terrible names that I have been mentioned and have read, but this should not be acceptable. It can have a major impact on people's mental health and it has certainly made my fear and low self-esteem worse. "
In response to the petition, the government said: "The government recognizes the damage that gay phobic online messages can cause. We work together to address inequality and make the UK online environment safer for everyone."
