The Human Rights Activists News Agency reports this. The two men were in prison in Maragha, a city in north-western Iran. They were also hanged there.

Mehrdad Karimpour and Farid Mohammadi were convicted of "sexual acts between two men", which is punishable by death in Iran.

The number of death sentences in general is rising in Iran. UN researcher Javaid Rehman said last October that it is increasing at an "alarming rate", which is bad news for those convicted of homosexuality. According to the AP news agency, two men were also hanged in Maragha in July last year.
