The View host: Children safer at Pride than in Catholic church

The hosts of the American talk show The View reacted to an anti-gay tweet from an American bishop, who claimed that Catholics should avoid Pride season because it is supposedly harmful for children.

This week, the ladies of The View kicked off Pride Month in the show. The conversation soon focussed on a Tweet by Catholic Bishop Thomas Joseph Tobin. He tweeted: “A reminder that Catholics should not support or attend LGBTQ ‘Pride Month’ events held in June,” According to him, the Pride-related activities are in contrast to the Catholic faith and are particularly harmful to children.

The hosts, Sunny Hostin in particular, gave a clear stance on this issue. Hostin, who herself is Catholic as well, emphasized the following: ‘’Given what the Catholic Church has hidden about the abuse of children… some would say that being at a Pride parade would be much safer for a child than it has been to be in a Catholic Church for many years.” She also said that she herself is planning on attending various Pride activities with her children.

The talk show is notorious for the common arguments between the hosts, the ladies however seemed to be in sync regarding Pride season. Later this week, the hosts also responded with disgust and confusion to the initiative for a ‘’Straight Pride’’ in Boston: “It’s so demeaning and dismissive. There’s a parade every day of straight white men!”
