Man not allowed to donate blood, donates kidney instead

The American Barton Lynch donated blood his entire life as way of giving back to society. But since he started dating men, he is no longer allowed to donate blood by law (unless he abstains from having sex with men for at least 12 months). In order to both emphasize the hypocrisy and still give back to the community, he decided to donate one of his kidneys.

Lynch recently started dating men and because of this he is no longer allowed to donate blood. This came as a big disappointment: ‘’I had been donating blood my whole life, and it was good way for me to give back. Not that long ago, I started dating guys, which now eliminates me from being able to donate blood.’’

He still found a way to continue contributing to society: his kidney. He said: ‘’So I needed to find a way to give back that wasn’t giving blood. I know the need is there for kidney donations, so it seemed like a no-brainer — how could I not?’’

Afterwards, he emphasized the hypocrisy within the rules made by the Food & Drugs Association (FDA), that legally prevent gay and bi men from donating blood. According to him the rules are ‘’crazy’’ due to the exclusion of a big group while there is a shortage of blood donations in the U.S.
