The two men (both in their 30’s) were on their way home when three teenagers, between the ages of 12 and 15, approached them. Before attacking them with a knife, the three boys reportedly yelled numerous homophobic slurs at the two men.

Both men were taken to the hospital. One of them was left with severe injuries to the head and neck. The other man was relatively unharmed with only a minor hand injury.

Detective Inspector Tara Denn made the following statement: ‘’This was an appalling and unprovoked attack on two men simply making their way home and we are working tirelessly to locate those responsible. “Two men have been left with significant injuries tonight and the hate and violence that has been inflicted on them is simply unacceptable and won’t be tolerated on the streets of Merseyside.’’
