Boston ‘’Straight Pride’’ approved by city officials

The announcement of the ‘’Straight Pride’’ in Boston faced a significant amount of backlash from the LGBT+ community. However, it now seems that the straight parade will be allowed to take place on August 31st after the city council approved the application.

The right-wing organization Super Happy Fun America sent their application for the event to the Boston city council several weeks ago. While this initiative received a lot of criticism from the LGBT+ community, the event will most likely take place at the end of August now that the city council has approved their application.

On the website of the parade, they claim that straight people have become an ‘’oppressed majority’’. One of the organizers said during a press conference: ‘’ “I agree it is unusual to have something like this, but a lot of things seem unpopular at first but then they become mainstream.’’

Furthermore, the organization claims that they do not hate anyone, but simply want to have their own celebration ‘’just like everybody else has a right to’’. They also say everyone is welcome to join their straight parade, as long as they show respect.

On social media, many expressed their disgust with the initiative, emphasizing that ‘’every day is straight pride’’ because straight people have numerous privileges that the LGBT+ community either does not have or did not have until recently.
