To see if the two male flamingos could raise a chick together, the caretakers at the San Diego Zoo Safari Park initially placed a fake egg with the pair. When it became clear that they treated the artificial egg as if it were real, it was secretly swapped for a fertilised egg. Recently, a small flamingo chick hatched from it, and the two fathers have been lovingly taking care of it. The zoo is very pleased with the parenting skills of the two males, who feed the chick daily through their beaks, allowing it to grow rapidly.
This isn't the first time a same-sex flamingo couple has raised a chick in a zoo. In August, a similar case occurred at the zoo in Devon, United Kingdom.
