The promotion for the "My Wedding Stories" expansion set for The Sims 4 features footage of a wedding between two women. Because of that promotion, publisher Electronic Arts (EA) fears the possible consequences of the gay propaganda law that came into effect in Russia in 2013. The regular Sims 4 already includes the option to play with same-sex couples, so the game has an age rating of 18+.

“We are committed to the freedom to be who you are, to love who you love and to tell the stories you want to tell,” the publisher writes in a blog post. “We are steadfast in upholding that commitment by shining a light on and celebrating stories such as [the marriage between two women], so we've made the decision to forgo the release of 'My Wedding Stories' where we would have to adjust our storylines."

It's not the first time a publisher has chosen not to release something in Russia. For example, several films could not be shown in Russia because they refused to adapt the story.
