The Heads of Delegation Meeting in Tel Aviv



Last week, the Heads of Delegation and Heads of Press from the 41 participating countries gathered in Tel Aviv for the annual HoD Meeting. They were informed by Eurovision broadcaster, KAN, and the EBU about the 2019 Eurovision Song Contest preparations in the city and were given the opportunity to visit some Eurovision-related venues and locations.

The attendees were updated with the latest developments in regard to the organization of the Eurovision Song Contest including accommodation, transport, security, details regarding the Eurovision Village, Press Centre, Red Carpet, Welcome Reception, Opening Ceremony, and of course the three live shows. Also, the host country’s position in the Grand Final was determined: they will perform 14th in the show.

 

During the break, none other than 2018 winner Netta made an appearance and gave a special performance of A-Ba-Ni-Bi (Israeli’s 1978 Eurovision entry)

The OGAE Euro Café venue unveiled


Ha-Oman 17 has been revealed as the OGAE Euro Café and will be playing host to the many Eurovision fans in Tel Aviv upcoming May. The fancy nightclub is located in one of the hippest districts of Tel Aviv, the Florentin district, an area known for its nightlife, bars and cafes. During the Eurovision week, Ha-Oman 17 will enable fans to mix and mingle. It is expected that many international Eurovision celebrities will be performing at the club during the Eurovision week.

Iceland: Hatari wins Act of the Year in home country


So far, the Icelandic band Hatari has shaken things up with their outlandish appearance and outspoken political views. But in their own country, the BDSM techno band has already been crowned as Act of the Year. During the Icelandic Music Awards, Hatari won the trophy for Act of the Year in the pop, rock, rap, and electronic category. The band has been enjoying a growing popularity in their home country. Will their popularity be just as evident during the Eurovision Song Contest? We’ll find out in two months!

The Netherlands already envisioning Eurovision Song Contest in own country


Duncan Laurence will be representing The Netherlands in Tel Aviv upcoming May and so far, the bookmakers are expecting him to do very well. As of now he’s still number 1 in the ranks and seems quite popular across European Eurovision fans.

RTL Nieuws reported that a plan has been set in place to host the contest in The Netherlands next year (in case Duncan wins this year). According to RTL Boulevard the Dutch have had a hosting plan waiting in the wings for many years now.

Previously, The Netherlands were able to conquer Eurovision in 1957, 1959, 1969 and 1975. The country served as a host for the contest in 1958, 1970, 1976 and 1980.
