School principal expels gay student, "because Jesus would want him to"

For a 17-year-old boy in Texas, “back to school” is out of the question this year. The principal of his school in the city of Dallas expelled him for his sexual orientation. The principal is said to have said, “I’m doing what Jesus would want me to do.” The young student, however, has no resentment towards the school or principal: ‘’I don’t have any hate or hold a grudge. I know I’ll end up fine.’’

The boy in question, Devin Bryant, has been out since October last year. His mother told Dallas Voice that her son never had any problems with his sexuality until a new principal appeared in the hallways of the Covenant Christian Academy.

Although Devin's mother admits that she has signed the school's code of conduct, which condemns homosexuality in addition to a ban on drugs and fornication, she indicates that after Devin's coming out, he had no problems with this.

The new school principal, however, did make it a problem. He called Devin's mother to say her son is no longer welcome at the school. "Are you a Christian?" the mother asked the principal. "Jesus would not do what you are doing." The director is said to have replied, “I’m doing what Jesus would want me to do.”

According to Devin, the school had known about his sexual orientation for a long time. Moreover, he would even have had support for his coming out from the teachers. He suspects that school management does not want students to be as open about their sexual orientation as he was. His mother thinks that the school wants to set an example for other students with the expulsion of her son.

Devin is now starting his senior year at a public school. “I don’t have any hate or hold a grudge. I know I’ll end up fine.”
