70% of US voters willing to vote for gay president
Voters between the ages of 18 and 34 are most likely to support a gay candidate: 82% confirmed this, 14% said they would not support this, and 4% were unsure. Hispanic voters especially seemed supportive of a gay president: 77% in contrast to 69% of Caucasian voters and 66% of African-American voters.
The results appeared to be less optimistic when asked about their current view on the country. Only 36% believed that the US is currently ready for a gay president. The divide among Democrats is almost equal: 43% feels that the country is ready, while 49% thinks otherwise (8% was unsure). The difference appeared greater among Republicans: 30% said the country is ready for a gay president, 60% said it was not and 10% was unsure.
