Snoop Dogg Under Fire After Comments About Lesbian Couple in Pixar Film

Snoop Dogg is facing criticism following remarks about LGBTQ+ representation in the Disney/Pixar film Lightyear. Appearing on an episode of the It’s Giving podcast, the 53-year-old rapper said he was “scared to go to the movies” after watching the film with his grandson.

The animated movie, a spin-off of Toy Story, features a brief scene showing the character Alisha Hawthorne raising a child with her wife. The moment was already controversial before release, as Disney initially considered cutting the lesbian couple and a short kiss from the film. Following employee protests, the scene remained.

Snoop said he was caught off guard by questions from his grandson during the screening: “Papa Snoop? How she have a baby with a woman? She a woman.” The rapper admitted he didn’t know how to respond and felt uncomfortable: “Ah, shit. I didn’t come in for this shit, I just came to watch the goddamn movie. Y’all throwing me in the middle of shit that I don’t have an answer for.”

According to Snoop, this is why he’s hesitant to take children to see new films: “These are kids, we have to show that at this age? They’re going to ask questions. I don’t have the answer.”

The comments are notable as the rapper has previously expressed support for LGBTQ+ rights. Back in 2013, he spoke in favour of same-sex marriage: “Satisfy yourself accordingly. I have no issues with nobody. I live for me and I live my life doing what I do, so you should have the right to do whatever you want to do.” He has also publicly supported Democratic presidential candidates and criticised Donald Trump, although in recent years he has softened his stance towards Trump.

Fans and followers are divided: some agree with Snoop’s concerns, while others call his response outdated and disappointing. The rapper has not yet responded to the backlash.
