Prince Harry and Meghan Markle welcome Pride Month with a heart-warming Instagram post

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle took over the official Sussex Royal Instagram account last weekend to celebrate the start of Pride Month 2019. They posted a collage on Instagram with for instance a photo of Muhlaysia Booker, a black transgender woman who was robbed of life last month.

There are eight other photos in the collage. One of these photos is of Princess Diana, sitting on the bed of someone who was being treated for HIV during the AIDS crisis. In the Today show, Harry spoke out about the photo: ‘When that April, she shook the hand of a 32-year-old man with HIV, in front of the cameras, she knew exactly what she was doing. She was using her position as Princess of Wales – the most famous woman in the world – to challenge everyone to educate themselves; to find their compassion; and to reach out to those who need help instead of pushing them away.’

The message below the photo reads: “This month we pay tribute to the accounts supporting the LGBTQ+ community - those young and old, their families and friends, accounts that reflect on the past and are hopeful for a deservedly more inclusive future. We stand with you and support you. Because it’s very simple: love is love.”

A number of LGBT people, organizations and allies have expressed their appreciation and love after posting this article. Prince Harry has continued his mother's work on HIV / AIDS prevention and treatment around the world and recently collaborated with the Elton John Aids Foundation for a new coalition.
