The past 20 years Negri was mostly active as a criminal lawyer, handling a diverse spectrum of criminal cases ranging from domestic abuse to driving under influence (dui) and fraud.

Gianmarco is best known from his television appearance on the local TV show ‘Love me Gender’. On the show he said: “I have always felt like a man.” He added: “I had the courage, through various operations, to find myself once and for all.

However, Gianmarco isn’t the first transgender politician to be elected in Italy: Vladimir Luxuria became the first openly transgender member of parliament in Europe when she was elected in 2006.
