The FBI says it has indications that terrorists view Pride celebrations as potential targets for terror acts. “Foreign terrorist organisations or supporters may seek to exploit increased gatherings associated with the upcoming June 2024 Pride Month,” the warning states. “FTO efforts to commit or inspire violence against holiday celebrations, including Pride celebrations or LGBTQIA+-related venues, are compounded by the current heightened threat environment in the United States and other western countries.”

The campaign by Islamic State calls on followers to disrupt LGBT+ events. Other terrorist organisations are not specifically mentioned by name.

It has long been known that jihadists consider Pride a potential target for a terror attack. For example, an attack on Pride in Vienna was foiled last year. In 2018, Amsterdam Pide was a target of an armed terror attack, which was also prevented.
