The father has been arrested by the police. Abc News reports that the two got into a fight after the father came across homosexual pornographic material on his son's phone. He reportedly told his son to pack a bag with clothes and to go sit in the car. The father then left him near a police station. According to the father, the police would "find a new home for him", while the boy had no water, food, money or a telephone with him. He is in his early teens, the exact age has not been made public by the authorities.

A witness saw it happen and called the police. The officer on site found the boy crying. When the father came home without his son, the mother went straight to the police station to pick up her son. When the police arrived at their house, the father had disappeared. He later reported himself to the police and is being prosecuted for child abuse.
