The Russian LGBT Network has helped evacuate around 150 people from Chechnya since April 2017, after the anti-LGBT crackdown in the country was exposed. One of the volunteers reported that he was aggressively interrogated and threatened by seven men in his own apartment. “We will take you to the police office and will break all your bones,” said one of the men according to the victim.

The seven perpetrators were supposedly looking for a young woman who escaped from Chechnya and the Russian LGBT Network emergency programme coordinator.

Four of the seven men implied that they are policemen from the capitol of Chechnya, however they refused to provide official identification. They further claimed that they belong to a special unit under Chechnya leader Ramzan Kadyrov.
