Ja till samkönade äktenskap i Österrike

Österrikes författningsdomstol har beslutat att homosexuella par får gifta sig från och med 2019, uppger TT.

Hbtq-organisationer i Wien jublar sedan Österrikes författningsdomstol slagit fast att samkönade par ska få rätt att gifta sig. Landet sällar sig därmed till en skara på cirka 25 länder i världen med könsneutrala äktenskap.

Samkönade par har kunnat ingå partnerskap i Österrike sedan 2010, men giftermål i kyrkan har hittills varit otillåtet.
 
När två kvinnor i huvudstaden Wien klagade på förbudet efter att de vägrats tillstånd för en kyrklig vigsel valde landets författningsdomstol att utreda frågan.
 
Enligt utslaget ska de regler som förhindrar samkönade äktenskap lyftas senast i slutet av 2018, om inte myndigheterna väljer att göra det tidigare. Utslaget slår fast att rådande lagar som förbjuder samkönade äktenskap är diskriminerande. Dessutom ska både homosexuella och heterosexuella par nu ges möjlighet att registrera partnerskap.
 
"Vi är mycket lyckliga," säger den lokala hbtq-organisationen HOSI:s ledare Christian Hoegl till nyhetsbyrån Reuters.
 
"Vi vill ta tillfället i akt och mana till en grundläggande äktenskapsreform."
 
Bland de länder som har legaliserat samkönade äktenskap finns bland annat Tyskland, Frankrike, Storbritannien, Nederländerna och USA. I Sverige blev det fritt fram för samkönade par att gifta sig den 1 maj 2009.
